Distinguished therapist and bestselling author, Terry Real, has developed an educational series for therapists and other helping professionals. The RRS training programs will introduce professionals to the theoretical concepts of the Relational Life Model™ and teach competency in the clinical practice of Real’s Relational Life Therapy™.
There are four levels of training, all which offer different degrees of certification in the Relational Life Therapy model. As a helping professional, you are welcome to complete all levels, or participate to the stage of training that best meets your interests. Upon “graduation” from each level, you will be awarded a written certificate depicting your completion of this level.
Level 1 - Beginner Certification Requirements
*The advanced level required Team Coaching can begin following the LEVEL 1 Practicum.
Level 2 - Intermediate Certification Requirements
Level 3 - Advanced Certification Requirements
Level 4 - Master Certification Requirements
ON-Going requirements for all levels:
Once you have completed a level of training and obtain your certificate, you must engage in on-going “maintenance training” in order to stay in active status as a graduate. To do this, you will need to accumulate 30 Relational Life Training Points™ every two years.
Elements of the Relational Life Training and their corresponding points for 2008 include:
- Listening to the Grandiosity CD (5 points)
- Listening to the “Making Love Work” CD (5 points)
- Listening (again) to The Foundations of Relational Life Therapy CD (5 points)
- Attending (again) The Relational Life Skills™ Workshop
(30 points)
- Attending (again) any Relational Life Practicum (30 points)
- Participating in a 6-week Professional Teleclass (15 points)
- Observing the 2-day Legacy Workshop (20 points) - please call 877-REAL-414

- Observing the 3-day Couples Experiential (25 points) - please call 877-REAL-414
- Engaging in team coaching with an RLI coach following the initial year / 36 hours of coaching – (3 points per month)
- Attending a one-day Workshop with Terry Real (10 Points)
- Attending the Master Class with Terry Real (30 points)
- Observing Terry Real work with a referred couple (2 points per hour)
If your selections to maintain your current level of certification include requirements of the next level of training, you may apply this work towards completion of that level.
Benefits of completing the Training Curriculum:
Level 1: BEGINNER
Upon completion of Level 1, participants will:
- Understand the Relational Life Model
- Understand and have practiced with other professionals the core elements of Relational Life Therapy
- Receive a certificate from RLI, signed by Terry Real, stating completion of this level
The Foundations of Relational Life Therapy CD
This six CD-Rom course provides the basic theoretical framework of Relational Life Therapy as taught by Terry Real. This is a pre-requisite for attending the two-day Practicum and the Advanced Practicum Training. The set contains six one-hour classes, each on a separate CD.
The Relational Life Level 1 Practicum for Therapists
This training, led by Terry Real and other RRS Faculty, is for the experienced clinician who understands the basic theoretical framework and principals of the Relational Life Model. The objective is for participants to gain an intermediate level of competency in the clinical practice of Relational Life Therapy. All participants will observe and then practice the essential techniques learned.
**Pre-requisite: Foundations CD course or the equivalent is required before taking this course.

lEVEL 2: iNTERMEDIATE
Upon completion of Level 2, participants will:
- Be able to effectively put to practice the Relational Life Model
- Receive a certificate from RLI, signed by Terry Real, stating completion of the Training Curriculum
The Relational Life Level 2 Practicum for Therapists
This 3-day practicum led by Terry Real and RRS Faculty, is for the experienced clinician who understands the basic theoretical framework and principals of the Relational Life Model. The objective is for participants to gain full competency in the clinical practice of Relational Life Therapy, and is designed to provide more in-depth coverage of the therapeutic skills needed for effective practice.
**Pre-requisite: Foundations CD course or its equivalent and participation in the 2-day Relational Life Practicum are required to take this course.

lEVEL 3: Advanced
Upon completion of Level 3, participants will:
- Be able to effectively put to practice at an advanced level the Relational Life Model
- Deeply understand and have further practiced with other professionals the core elements of Relational Life Therapy
- Receive a certificate from RLI, signed by Terry Real, stating completion of the Training Curriculum
- Be listed on www.terryreal.com as an “RLI-trained therapist or coach”
Team Coaching
As part of the training curriculum for helping professionals, RRS requires completion of a professional “Team Coaching” requirement. Team coaching assumes 1 Year (or 36 hours) of coaching from an RLI Coach. All coaching is phone-based, with up to four professionals in a “group.” All those seeking completion of the training program must complete 12 months of coaching. Registration is on rolling basis. The purpose of this requirement is to give professionals the value of real-time practice and application coaching. Coaches can expect to learn the tools and understand at a deeper level the Relational Empowerment framework.
The fee is $175 US per month. This fee provides for three 55 minute sessions per month, unlimited e-mail correspondence, and handouts. Checks are due on the first day of the month in which the coaching is to occur.

lEVEL 4: mastery
Upon completion of Level 4, participants will:
- Be able to effectively put to practice at an advanced level the Relational Life Model
- Deeply understand and have further practiced with other professionals the core elements of Relational Life Therapy
- Receive a certificate from RLI, signed by Terry Real, stating completion of the Training Curriculum
- Be listed on www.terryreal.com as an “RLI-trained therapist or coach”
- Be featured in a rotating promotion on the RLI website as “Therapist / Coach Profile” where your photo, contact details, brief bio, statement of your approach, and how Relational Life Therapy™ influences your work will be highlighted.
- Be a candidate as a RLI-trained Coach, faculty member, or teleclass instructor
**Terry Real Master Class
The Master Class with Terry Real will be a retreat for helping professionals who have completed their professional training curriculum with RRS and are interested in moving to a level of mastery in this work. To be held at Terry’s home on Martha’s Vineyard (accommodations are the responsibility of the participant), the retreat will be focused on providing this very experienced group with a self-electing “open space” agenda where topics and discussion are determined by group needs and desired focus. Recommendations for accommodations will be provided by RRS. Space is limited to 10.

**Participants are required to complete the entire RRS training curriculum, including: Foundations CD Set, The Relational Life Practicum, Relational Life Skills Workshop, Advanced Practicum, and one year of Coaching from an RRS Coach.
